SafeZone steel barriers now available from Jaybro
SafeZone steel road barriers have one of the highest roadside safety levels, offering MASH TL-4 protection.
With vehicles getting heavier, larger and longer, and our roads getting busier, there is a growing need to ensure road barrier design keeps up with road use trends and safety requirements.
Because of this increased need for stronger and more highly rated barriers, Jaybro has introduced the SafeZone steel road barrier into our temporary barrier range.
This barrier has successfully passed both MASH TL-3 and MASH TL-4 Limited Deflection tests. This means that it provides predictable impact behaviour when impacted with a 10t truck travelling at 90km/h and impacting the barrier at an angle of 15 degrees.
Deflects and absorbs heavy impacts
Whilst all road barriers are designed to reduce the severity of accidents and injuries, a solid, rigid crash barrier is not always the safest choice. Although it appears at first glance that a strong, solid surface will offer better protection, a barrier that is too rigid can have a detrimental effect.
Hitting a hard, unforgiving surface with force can sometimes result in a more serious outcome for drivers and their passengers. The strength and rigidity of the barrier need to be tempered with a certain amount of flexibility and energy absorption, allowing the force of the impact to dissipate.
If a vehicle collides with a solid, inflexible barrier, the vehicle will be redirected and crushed, increasing the chances of a fatality. On the other hand, transferring the crushing or crumpling effect onto the barrier means a better outcome for the driver, pedestrians and road workers.
The SafeZone Barrier is the first MASH-TL4 Limited Deflection compliant temporary steel barrier on the market. This TL4 rated barrier has been designed to not just deflect, but also absorb impact from vehicle collisions.
Steel barrier installation is a breeze
The SafeZone TL4 steel barrier offers reduced installation time, saving you money in labour costs.
The barriers are lightweight at only 92kg per metre, allowing for fast deployment on site. Additionally, the individual barrier elements are easy to connect with a fast connector system that allows a Hiab or crane truck to place long runs of barriers quickly. Installation is completed by simply dropping the slots at the end of one barrier over the pins in another, forming a secure locking system. They are also easy to uncouple when necessary, meaning damaged sections can easily be removed or replaced.
Designed for both temporary work zones or permanent use on roads and highways, the SafeZone is available in 5.8-metre lengths.
Our team recently supplied SafeZone barriers to John Holland & Seymour Whyte for the Sydney Gateway project, and the installation was completed incredibly efficiently. Even with the addition of special 5 and 10-degree bend pieces plus multiple Tau-M & Absorb-M crash cushions, the installation was quick and easy.
Small footprint, lightweight design
A small footprint means that more barriers can be transported at once, again contributing to quick and seamless installation. Plus, because the Safe Zone barriers are strong yet lightweight, they help to reduce fuel consumption for delivery and maintenance contractors.
In combination with a 20-year life expectancy, this leads to a considerable reduction in CO2 emissions when compared with the maintenance and upkeep of concrete road barriers.
