Drainage system at Bankwest Stadium still going strong
Polymer concrete channel drains give a polished look to Western Sydney’s premier stadium
Project snapshot
Some years back, Parramatta’s ageing football stadium underwent a massive overhaul. A redevelopment project funded by the NSW State Government’s Sport Infrastructure fund began in 2019, aiming to present a world-class hub and showpiece for sporting events held in Sydney’s western corridor.
The redevelopment of Parramatta oval, home of the Parramatta Eels NRL & Western Sydney Wanderers FC, saw the venue undergo a name change to Bankwest Stadium.
Since its official opening, Bankwest Stadium has quickly become one of the country’s favourite venues, winning a number of awards for its design and architecture.
The challenges
During the construction phase, the contractor needed to install a drainage system that could handle significant runoff from the surrounding hard surfaces.
Due to the architectural nature of the stadium’s design, the project called for an aesthetically pleasing surface drainage solution to integrate with the surrounding facility. It also needed to be safe, non-slip, practical and serviceable.
The Drain Supreme 3000 polymer concrete channel with locking ductile iron grate system was an ideal fit for this project, offering heavy-duty performance with a low profile, professional finish.
The solution
Hydro Construction Products supplied the contractor with AC3000 polymer concrete channel drain. This channel features ductile iron heel safe grating, making it safe for the thousands of patrons that flock to regular sporting fixtures at the stadium.
The 323mm wide channel drain also features CLIPFIX anti-shunt grating clips, which prevent the grates from sliding along the channels over time. Manufactured with Class D loading, this drainage solution provided a tough and long-lasting solution in this heavy pedestrian area.
Two years on, the drainage system from Hydro Construction Products is looking as good today as it did when first installed.
